Srila Prabhupada says that Krishna consciousness is a science and not a religion. Science speaks about the universal principles that are true in any country and at any time. Whereas, religion is a part of human ego, therefore it becomes a source of quarrels between people. Krishna consciousness is meant to eliminate all quarrels and bring people together.

Krishna consciousness has a religious aspect in its practice, but it still is completely scientific. To understand any science we need to have certain qualifications. The qualification for understanding the science of Krishna consciousness is purity of the heart, namely humility and non-envy. If we try to understand it without having these qualities, our heart will not change.
